Week 6 - Academic Articles
For this blog I looked at a couple of academic articles and answered the questions given to me.
Article 1
Title: The Impacts of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence On Business
and Economics
Author: Cüneyt Dirican
APA reference: Dirican, C. (2015).
The impacts of robotics, artificial intelligence on business and economics. Procedia-Social and Behavioral
Sciences, 195, 564-573.
How you found the article and what keywords you used: I searched “artificial
intelligence” on Google Scholar
What kind of article it is: Conference Paper
All the reasons that you think it is an academic article: It has a layout
that matches the structure of an academic article. The first give away was that
it has an abstract, then after opening it I could see that it followed the
layout closely. It was also peer reviewed by a university.
How well it fits the 'structure of an academic article: See above
How many references it has: 70
How many citations it has (if you can find out): 36
Say whether you are interested in properly reading the article or not
(and give some reasons!): I probably won’t read the article, it’s long and
it’s dense. I also don’t like that it doesn’t really have headings which makes
it even harder to read. The subject is interesting though, so maybe if I’m in
the mood I’ll give it a crack.
Article 2
Title: Progress in structural materials for aerospace systems
Authors: James C Williams & Edgar A Starke Jr
APA reference: Williams, J. C., & Starke
Jr, E. A. (2003). Progress in structural materials for aerospace systems. Acta
Materialia, 51(19), 5775-5799.
How you found the article and what keywords you used: I searched “aerospace” on Google Scholar
What kind of article it is: A journal article
All the reasons that you
think it is an academic article: First off, it has an
abstract, and it also has an outline that matches the academic article layout
that Lars showed us. I couldn’t actually read this one because I have to
purchase access to it, but there was plenty of information to show it was an
academic article. It also has over a thousand citations according to Google
Scholar.
How well it fits the
'structure of an academic article: See above
How many references it
has: This was hidden
How many citations it has
(if you can find out): 1321
Say whether you are
interested in properly reading the article or not
(and give some reasons!):
This one I couldn’t read if I wanted to! I would have to purchase
the PDF first. I also don’t have interest in the field so I don’t really feel
the need to read stuff like this.
